So this past weekend I went away to London with my daughter. It didn’t start very well as I found out before going to bed that the place we were going to stay had cancelled the booking. So I was on the phone to booking.com trying to figure things out. The person I spoke to was very helpful and things got sorted but I could not sleep after that. I also found out that I had booked The King Tutankhamun Immersive experience for the Saturday and not for my birthday on the Sunday. I had other plans for Saturday and now this put things into disarray. Luckily plans got moved around.
Friday was an awesome day for many reasons. We arrived at the new hotel early to see if we could drop our bags off. The wonderful lady at reception actually upgraded our room and we could check in. I could of cried. The hotel, Britannia International Hotel Canary Wharf, I would happily stay again. Fantastic location, wonderful and friendly staff, lovely view out onto the water and comfy beds. We didn’t eat there but will next time. After unpacking, relaxing and then getting freshened up and changed, we headed to Piccadilly. We met up with one of my most favourite friends for a coffee and a chat. My daughter had never met him before and she called him walking sunshine, which is true. After having a spot of food we headed to watch Moulin Rouge. Now I had seen it before but my daughter hadn’t. I didn’t tell her any spoilers. Well I wish I could of filmed her reactions. Cannot wait to go back again. We met a few of the actors after and my daughter go to met her favourite actor from The Bill.

Saturday was a busy day. We started at Borough Market and had a bottle of fresh sugar cane juice from a stand called Raya. Highly recommend. We then made our way and on to The Golden Hinde ship. I have walked past it a few times but never been on. As my daughter is studying Classics and looking into the importance of keeping history alive and how it is done. We then headed to Shakespeare’s The Globe where we had lunch. I ended up buying some goodies. We then headed to The Hunterian Museum in Lincolns Inn. Well that was an interesting place. Worth a visit but don’t go if you are squeamish and of a delicate disposition. There are a lot of specimens both human and animal in jars. After leaving there we headed straight away to The O2 and to Nando’s. What my daughter didn’t know is that I had a little surprise for her. Now to get to the King Tut thing we had to get from the O2 to the Excel. One way of doing it is by going on the IFS Cloud Cable Car. Well she wasn’t best pleased and I now owe her a huge ice cream. But the views are incredible and the journey was quick. The King Tut immersive experience was beyond awesome. Now I have a track record of not reading things fully when I book things. I thought that it was a room with a few recreated items and some actual archaeological items, then a big room with a big projection onto the walls. I am glad I didn’t read what was fully going on as I love a surprise or two. I love the VR sat down section but the best and the one we had the most fun was the walking around VR room. We laughed so much. I wish I could of taken a picture of what I could see in my headset. Now imagine that you are in a dark tomb and around you are the floating heads of Howard Carter. It was like something out of Monty Python. At one point I told my daughter to watch out for the rug and the tent pole. She had to remind me that they are not real.

On Sunday It was my birthday and I did not know what to do, the day I should have actually planned. We were going to go to Greenwich but then I decided that all I wanted was Pie and Mash in a shop in Soho an d to go shopping in Liberty’s. Mission was accomplished. We had pie and mash in a shop called Mother Mash. I had buttery mash, steak and Blackheart stoat pie and the liquor. My daughter had cheesy mash, chicken and mushroom pie with the Farmers gravy. Next time I will get the same pie and mash but with the farmers gravy. In Liberty’s we were there for ages in the haberdashery dept as I didn’t know what I wanted. I ended up buying two offcuts. When leaving and heading towards another fabric shop (which we found out was closed) we saw a group of people crowding. Just so happened that the gorgeous Giovanni Pernice. He was mobbed by some older ladies. Poor chap. I hope the young girl who waited patiently got her autograph. On the way back to the hotel we got dinner from Itsu and instead of cake I had a big mochi. As we had to be up and out before 10am the next day we made sure all bags were packed and we were in bed early.

On monday we were out early and we headed across London from Canary Wharf and to The Natural History Museum. I wanted to see an apparent haunted jewel. As I am the type of witchy person in which certain gemstones effect me. I was hoping for something from this jewel and was disappointed when nothing happened. After that we headed to Harrods but couldn’t go in as we had a small wheely suitcase with us. Slight disappointed but we have decided to add that to our list for the next trip. Instead we headed to Peter Jones store. To get to that we walked down Sloane Street. Now I have never walked down that street before and did not know the high end brands that had stores on that street. We did stop outside Chanel and have a seat. I was blown away by the window display. When we got to Peter Jones we headed straight to the place to eat for lunch. Food was good. As the restaurant is on the sixth floor and there was a crowd by the window. We got closer to have a look and got an awesome view of the 8oth VE Day flypast. Got some cracking shots of the planes. After making our way to the bus station and having a Starbucks we had an uneventful journey home. Bed early that night as my daughter was up early to get to my parents as her boyfriend was picking her up from there later that day.

Had an awesome time. I’m planning on going back soon to do some fabric shopping.
